Parenting Coordinator

Parenting Coordination is a method of alternative dispute resolution that provides the potential for quicker and more child-focused resolution than litigation. There are some parents that are simply unable to reach agreement as to what is in their children’s best interest. Those cases are often called high conflict cases, and those parents need assistance with child-related issues and decisions.

Jane M. Schirch has had extensive training as a parenting coordinator consistent with the guidelines for Parenting Coordination recommended by the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.

When children are exposed to ongoing conflict between their parents, they are at significant risk for social, academic and mental health problems and may experience more difficulty with intimate relationships in the future. A Parenting Coordinator may be helpful if the parents have been involved with extensive litigation, mediation has not been successful and parents have had difficulty implementing the terms of their parenting plan. A parenting coordinator can be appointed by the Court when parents agree to use the process, or a Court believes the assistance of a Parenting Coordinator will be beneficial for the family. The Parenting Coordinator will assist parents in focusing on the best interests of their children in order to make decisions that benefit their children and reduce conflict.
